Governor Andy Beshear is pushing back on claims made about wasteful spending in Kentucky's Medicaid system in the nation's capital yesterday. Kentucky Auditor Allison Ball claimed to find over 800-million dollars in fraudulent and unnecessary costs paid out by the state while speaking before a Congressional subcommittee. Ball says this includes non-citizens receiving Medicaid and benefits still being paid out for deceased individuals. Governor Beshear calls the 800-million-dollar assessment a "wild extrapolation" of federal Medicaid data, telling WHAS-TV the actual numbers are "nothing remotely close to that".A measure meant to simplify the death penalty process in Kentucky is now set to become law. The General Assembly voted to override Governor Beshear's veto on Senate Bill 251 during the last day of the legislative session yesterday. The bill directs the state Department of Corrections to determine procedures for carrying out executions without formal administrative regulations. The department will also be required to make policy details available online. Kentucky currently has two dozen inmates on death row.Metro Police are investigating two murders that occurred in the city last night. The fist happened in the Parkland neighborhood about five o-clock Police responded to a report of a shooting on Greenwood Avenue near Lewis Coleman Junior Drive. When they arrived, the found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He later died at a hospital. The second happened at The Old Tower in Old Louisville. Police say they found a man who had been shot several times and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police also found a woman who ah been assaulted and was rushed to UofL Hospital. She's expected to survive. State officials are preparing to launch a brand new driver's licensing system across the commonwealth soon. The Kentucky Information Network for Driver Licensing, or KINDL, system is set to debut on June 8th. It will be accompanied by an updated online portal for residents that will be called myDrive. All Driver Licensing Regional Offices across Kentucky will be closed on June 4th and 5th to allow records to be transferred onto the updated platform.
